Nathan Atkinson is Assistant Professor of Communication, and specializes in rhetorical studies, with particular attention to the manner in which visual images exert suasory influence in constituting public culture. His dissertation examined newsreel coverage of the first public test of the atomic bomb at Bikini Atoll, and he is currently revising the manuscript for book publication.
Atkinson’s research essays and reviews have so far appeared in the Rhetoric Society Quarterly, Language in Society, Rhetoric Review, and Rhetoric & Public Affairs. His work has been widely presented at the main rhetorical studies associational meetings, including the National Communication Association, the Rhetoric Society of America.
At GSU, Atkinson coordinates the department’s core curriculum media literacy course (SPCH 2050).
