Harcourt Fuller
Assistant Professor History- Biography
Harcourt Fuller is Assistant Professor of History in the Department of History at Georgia State University. Dr. Fuller holds a PhD in International History from the London School of Economics. His research and teaching expertise include the history of Africa, West Africa (Ghana in particular), the African Diaspora, Maroon nations in the Atlantic World, and nations and nationalism. His publications include the monograph Building the Ghanaian Nation-State: Kwame Nkrumah’s Symbolic Nationalism (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, December 2014), the co-edited book Money in Africa (London: Trustees of the British Museum, 2009), articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Nations and Nationalism, African Arts, and a forthcoming article in African Studies Quarterly.
As a descendant and scholar of the Jamaican Maroons, Dr. Fuller’s is currently working on several books, journal articles and documentary-films on Maroon history, culture and identity. He is the Educational Outreach Director for the award-winning documentary-film on the Jamaican Maroons, Akwantu: the Journey (www.akwantuthemovie.com), and writer/producer for the forthcoming documentary-film Queen Nanny: Legendary Maroon Chieftainess (www.facebook.com/nannythemovie). He is also working on a new book about Queen Nanny of the Maroons, as well as a monograph entitled, Maroons in the Family: History, Memory and Migration in the Life of a Jamaican Maroon Clan.
